Monroe County

Monroe County is located in western New York and has a population of about 744,000. It is named after James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States.

Numerous international companies are headquartered in Monroe County including Eastman Kodak, Bausch & Lomb, Paychecx, and Pictometry International. The county is also home to regional businesses such as Wegmans Food Markets, Roberts Communications, Inc., PAETEC Holding Corp., and Hickey Freeman.

Monroe County is an educational leader as it is home to nine colleges and universities. Additionally, four colleges maintain satellite campuses in Monroe County.

The 25th District of New York is home to three towns in Monroe County; Irondequoit, Penfield, and Webster.

The town of Irondequoit is a developed suburb with over 52,000 residents. Attractions unique to Irondequoit include Seabreeze Amusement Park, Hot Dog Row, the House of Guitars, and the country’s oldest miniature golf course, recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The town of Penfield has a population of approximately 36,000. It was incorporated in 1810 by the proprietor, Daniel Penfield, who purchased the town lands in 1795 and moved to the area in 1809. The town’s motto is “A Town of Planned Progress”.

The town of Webster was created in 1840 and is named after Daniel Webster, an American statesman and Senator from Massachusetts. Webster is home to a number of established and start-up companies that provide jobs and services to area residents. Webster places a high value on its pristine environment. The town recently purchased 1,023 acres of land to be used for hiking trails and other recreational activities for current and future generations. Webster also offers numerous parks throughout the town and village.
