Rep. Susan Davis Authors Bill to Foster Education Innovation in Low-Performing Schools
WASHINGTON – Rep. Susan Davis (D-San Diego) introduced the Innovation in Education Act to put in place two new resources for educators and administrators across the country: a National Education Innovation Network and an Education Innovation Corps.
The National Education Innovation Network would be an online hub for teachers and administrators to offer advice, share best practices, and incorporate new ideas into their classrooms and schools.
The Education Innovation Corps would be a team of knowledge brokers and education experts who can work directly with teachers and administrators in low-performing schools to help solve their most critical problems.
“We’ve acknowledged time and again that our schools are struggling, but we have to give them better and more tangible tools to help turn things around,” said Davis. “Educators and administrators have some of the hardest jobs in the world. They deserve quality resources at their fingertips that support growth and promote best practices.”
The Department of Education would be responsible for establishing and maintaining the National Education Innovation Network and the Education Innovation Corps.
Rep. Davis serves on the House Education and Workforce Committee, regularly meets with San Diego educators and administrators, and began her career in public service as president of the San Diego School Board.
