REP. SUSAN DAVIS ENDORSES NAVY'S DECISION TO NAME CARGO SHIP AFTER CESAR E. CHAVEZ
SAN DIEGO – Congresswoman Susan A. Davis (D-San Diego) released the following statement on the Navy's decision to name a cargo ship after Cesar E. Chavez.
"As a long time supporter of the T-AKE program, I strongly endorse the Navy's choice of naming one of its cargo ships after Cesar E. Chavez, U.S. Civil Rights leader and Navy veteran. I commend Navy Secretary Ray Mabus for his decision, which is wholly consistent with the names of the other 13 ships.
"These ships have traditionally been named after American pioneers, explorers, and visionaries. Cesar E. Chavez certainly fits that profile. The life he led and what he stood for - respect, dignity, and human rights - are an inspiration to millions of Americans from all walks of life. This honor will mean so much to millions of Latino Americans, including the men and women of Latino heritage who will build the ship that bears his name."
