Appropriations Requests

Issues: Local Issues

Dear Constituents,

I am now accepting Fiscal Year 2013 appropriations requests. The deadline for completed appropriations submissions is close of business on Friday, March 9th.  An electronic form must be received for each programmatic and language request.

As you may know, unlike previous years, I can only accept programmatic and language requests.  Requests for earmarks, or specific projects, are no longer accepted and are prohibited under House Rules.  As a reminder, the House Rules define an earmark as: a provision or report language included primarily at the request of a Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, or Senator providing, authorizing or recommending a specific amount of discretionary budget authority, credit authority, or other spending authority for a contract, loan, loan guarantee, grant, loan authority, or other expenditure with or to an entity, or targeted to a specific State, locality or Congressional district, other than through a statutory or administrative formula-driven or competitive award process.

I am committed to fighting for federal resources that will spur economic development, improve infrastructure, protect the health and safety of the public, and support the most vulnerable throughout the 33rd Congressional District.  Your submissions will help me make recommendations to the Committee on Appropriations that reflect the needs and challenges facing our community.  Please submit requests that fill a clear and present need, have the ability to be administered successfully, and have the support of the local community.

If you have any questions, my office is here to assist you. You can reach my staff either by phone (202-225-7084) or by email CA33.appropriationsrequests@mail.house.gov

Again thank you for your interest in the Fiscal Year 2013 appropriations process.  Please visit my FY13 Appropriations website and send your completed forms to the email address above by close of business on Friday, May 9th.

Sincerely,

KAREN BASS

Member of Congress
