Iowa's First District

The First Congressional District of Iowa is made up of 12 northeast Iowa counties.  It includes the cities of Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Dubuque, Clinton, Davenport, and Bettendorf.

The Mississippi River-the largest river in North America-makes up the eastern border of the First District (and the state of Iowa), and scenic bluffs run along the river from the Quad Cities metro area northward. Rolling farmland is the most distinctive physical feature of the First District, and corn and soybeans are the most common crop.

In 2011, the Iowa General Assembly approved changes to Iowa’s Congressional districts as part of the decennial redistricting process set in motion by the 2010 US Census.  Starting in January 2013, Iowa’s new First District will no longer include Scott or Clinton counties, but will include Linn, Benton, Tama, Marhsall, Poweshiek, Iowa, Worth, Mitchell, Howard, Winneshiek, and Allamakee counties.”
