Bachmann and Bass Introduce Bipartisan Adoption Resolution

Nov 15, 2012 Issues: Foster Care and Adoption

(Washington, D.C.) Congressional Coalition on Adoption (CCA) House Co-Chairs Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) and Congresswoman Karen Bass (CA-33) introduced today House Resolution (H.RES) 809, a bipartisan resolution supporting the goals and ideals of National Adoption Month and National Adoption Day in November. This resolution promotes national awareness of adoption, encourages the well-being of every child and recognizes individuals and organizations working with orphans and foster children.

“National Adoption Month and National Adoption Day are about informing the public on the issues surrounding adoption, but it is my hope that they will also create a movement towards finding every child a home,” said Bachmann. “My children and foster children have brought such joy to my life, and it is my sincere hope that America’s youth can find permanency with a safe and loving family.

“In the spirit of National Adoption Month and Day, let us celebrate and thank our nation’s adoptive families for their unwavering compassion,” said Bass. "With more than 100,000 foster children still awaiting loving, permanent families, it is critical that we continue to support policies that help expedite adoptions for our nation’s youth and parents.”

National Adoption Month was first designated in 1995, and National Adoption Day launched in November 2000. National Adoption Day marks the day that agencies, organizations and families come together to complete thousands of foster care adoptions.

Since 1985, the Congressional Coalition on Adoption (CCA) has brought together members of Congress committed to making sure every child in America has a safe, permanent and loving home. With 164 members, CCA is the largest, bicameral caucus in all of Congress.
