ABOUT THE 8th DISTRICT

The 8th Congressional District includes the cities of Chelsea, Cambridge, Somerville and approximately 70% of Boston. It is an ethnically diverse and geographically compact area. Long time residents share their neighborhoods with newly-arrived immigrants and students.

The 8th's neighborhoods exude an abundance of charm, and those interested in architecture or history will be impressed with the area's housing stock, which ranges from turn-of-the century apartment buildings, to rambling Victorians, colonials and multi-family dwellings. There is truly something for everyone in this, one of the nation's most diverse congressional districts.

Nobel Prize winners

The 8th district is home to many of the world's most profound and original thinkers, gathered in great universities, research institutes, and teaching hospitals. I was pleased, but not surprised, to find that men and women who lived, studied, or worked in the 8th Congressional District have won almost 1 in 5 of the Nobel Prizes ever awarded.
