California is home to nearly two million  veterans, more than any other state.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Feinstein has worked to increase funding for medical research on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at California’s 10 Veterans Affairs Medical Centers. 

Senator Feinstein is committed to improving the quality and reliability of services provided by the Department of Veteran Affairs for American veterans. 

She has fought for funding to improve the VA’s medical records system to reduce the long wait periods too many returning veterans face when seeking assistance from their government.

Senator Feinstein believes the high rates of homelessness and joblessness among our veterans is unconscionable:

• Veteran unemployment is more than 15 percent—nearly 6 percent higher than the nationwide average.
   
• There are more than 19,500 homeless veterans in California.  One out of every 10 veterans without a roof over their head lives in Los Angeles.

In September 2011, after half a decade of work, Senator Feinstein’s legislation to renovate facilities on the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center Campus passed the Senate and was signed by President Obama. The refurbished building will house homeless veterans and provide additional services for the  most vulnerable veterans in Southern California.
