Internship Information

An internship in the office of Senator Susan M. Collins provides successful candidates with the experience of working in the United States Congress and an overview of how a Senate office and staff work for the Senator and for the constituents. Interns are assigned to work with the Senate office staff who are responsible for the legislative, administrative, and communications operations of the office.

Internships are available on a fall/winter, spring, and summer basis.  Positions are offered in Washington, D.C. and all six state offices. 

To apply for an internship with the Washington, D.C. office or one of our Maine state offices, the candidate must forward the following application materials by email to internships@collins.senate.gov:

* an application

 *  a cover letter  -  in addition to relating your skills and experience to the position, your cover letters should address the following: 

     -explain why you want to work as an intern, what your long-term career goals are and what you hope to gain from your service,

     -explain areas of interest as an intern: i.e. press, administrative, legislative; specify any legislative issue areas that are of interest

*  a one-page resume

*  a writing sample

*  at least one letter of recommendation
