Adams’ Courthouse Safety Bill Passes U.S. House

Legislation Provides Surplus Metal Detectors to Local Courthouses

Washington, Sep 11 -

The House of Representatives passed legislation authored by Rep. Sandy Adams (FL-24) today that would allow for surplus magnetometers, or metal detectors, to be provided to local courthouses to enhance security.  The bipartisan legislation was passed by voice vote.  The companion legislation in the Senate is S. 2076, which was reported unanimously out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 24, 2012.

“With budgets getting smaller at every level of government, we need to find innovative and cost effective ways to make the best use of existing resources,” said Adams.  “When surplus federal metal detectors can be put to good use in our local communities, not only do we save money, but we also help improve the safety of our local judicial system.  I am confident that my legislation will benefit countless municipalities around the country and thank my colleagues for passing the Local Courthouse Safety Act today.”
