Education

As a former teacher and University President, Senator Blunt understands the importance of a top tier education for every student. In order to boost job creation in a struggling economy, it is vital to invest in a highly-skilled and highly-educated workforce who can compete in an increasingly global economy. And Senator Blunt believes that state and local communities are most equipped with the knowledge of how best advance their own classrooms.

Nearly ten years ago in January 2002, President Bush signed the most recent reauthorization of ESEA, the No Child Left Behind Act. The purpose of this law was to ensure that students nationwide would reach a pre-determined proficiency level by creating a federal education standard.

This legislation was an important victory for individual student achievement and accountability, however it does not give enough flexibility to states and local communities to determine their own reform efforts.

With job stability and education a top priority for Missourians, Senator Blunt looks forward to the opportunity to address ESEA reauthorization in the Senate while working with Missouri’s teachers and administrators to craft the best possible solutions for our state.

Senator Bunt will continue to encourage commonsense policies that create opportunities for local educators to decide what is in the best interest of their communities, education systems and students.
