Examining the Futures Markets: Responding to the Failures of MF Global and Peregrine Financial Group

The Committee will conduct a hearing to continue its ongoing examination into the collapse of financial firm MF Global as well as the recent collapse of Peregrine Financial Group, and how customer protections can be strengthened to prevent future misuse of customer funds in the futures markets. Witnesses include: Hon. Gary Gensler, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission; Hon. Jill Sommers, Member of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission; Mr. James Giddens, Trustee for the liquidation of MF Global, Inc.; and Mr. Ira Bodenstein, the bankruptcy trustee for Peregrine Financial Group, Inc.

Hearing on S. 3239 the "Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012" - Impact on Egg Producers

The Committee will hold a legislative hearing on S. 3239, the "Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012." The author of the legislation, Senator Dianne Feinstein will testify, as will Mr. David Lathem, Chairman of the United Egg Producers; Mr. Eric Benson, President of J.S. West and Companies; Mr. Greg Herbruck, Executive Vice President of Herbruck's Poultry Ranch; and Mr. Amon Baer, Owner of Mendelson Egg Company.

Chairwoman Stabenow, Ranking Member Roberts Highlight Reforms of Farm Bill, Call for Swift Senate Passage

Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow and Ranking Member Pat Roberts today urged the Senate to swiftly pass the Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012 (the Farm Bill), which reforms agriculture policy and saves more than $23 billion in taxpayer money by streamlining and consolidating programs and ending unnecessary farm subsidies. While saving taxpayer dollars, the bill strengthens initiatives that help America’s agriculture economy continue creating jobs.
