WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., a member of the Senate Banking Committee, today reiterated his opposition to further extension of the TAG (Transaction Account Guarantee) Program, S. 3637, in remarks on the Senate floor. The temporary measure established during the 2008 financial crisis provides unlimited federal insurance for noninterest-bearing business accounts. In a speech on the Senate floor, Sen. Corker said if talks between President Obama and Speaker Boehner fail to reach an acceptable $4.5 trillion fiscal reform agreement before the end of the year, his colleagues should prevent a tax increase on 98 percent of Americans and use the debt ceiling to negotiate necessary reforms to restore solvency to Medicare and Social Security.
