Casework

As your U.S. Senator, one of my most important roles is to serve as your liaison with the federal government and its agencies.  I understand how challenging it can be when dealing with the bureaucracy.  My staff and I will do everything possible to assist you in resolving any difficulties you may be experiencing with a federal agency.  Your needs and concerns are a top priority to me.

Although email has become an effective way to communicate, the Privacy Act of 1974 requires that I have your written permission to make an inquiry on your behalf.  Therefore, you will need to send a detailed letter explaining the issue and a completed General Release Form . If the problem relates to a Medicare issue, you will need to complete the Medicare Privacy Release Form. If the problem relates to an immigration issue, you will need to complete the Immigration Privacy Release Form .  Be sure to include all of your pertinent contact information so my staff and I may respond to you.  The completed Privacy Release Form and letter should be sent to my Dallas Office at:

Office of U.S. Senator John Cornyn
5001 Spring Valley Road, Suite 1125E
Dallas, Texas 75244
Phone: (972) 239-1310
Fax: (972) 239-2110

Although a friend or family member may contact me on behalf of someone else, the Privacy Release Form must be signed by the individual needing assistance.

If you need immediate assistance regarding an urgent or time-sensitive problem you are experiencing with the federal government, mail or fax your information to my Dallas office at (972) 239-2110 to ensure that your difficulties are brought to my attention as soon as possible.

It is a long-standing tradition of congressional courtesy in the United States Senate that each Senator be given the opportunity to serve his or her own constituents.  Therefore, if you are not a Texas resident, your request will be forwarded to a Senator in your state of residence.  You may find who represents your state at www.senate.gov.

Legal Issues

My office is unable to assist Texans with pending court actions.  The Senate Select Committee on Ethics advises all Senators to refrain from intervening in pending legal actions. Legal service programs are available in every county in Texas, and are supported by the federal government through the Legal Services Corporation (LSC).  Information regarding LSC can be found at www.lsc.gov

State Government Issues

As a federal legislator, I do not have jurisdiction over problems with Texas state agencies. State agencies outside of my jurisdiction include Child Protective Services, the Office of the Attorney General of Texas, and the Texas Department of Insurance.  For a complete list of state agencies, please visit http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/apps/lrs/agencies/.

If your difficulty is with a state or local entity, please contact your elected state and local representatives.  Please visit http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/ to find their contact information.
