Patient Safety Demands Tougher Oversight of Compounding Pharmacies

U.S. Senator Pat Roberts, a long time advocate of clarifying federal oversight of large compounding pharmacies, today said the industry must be examined and oversight improved to protect patient safety following the meningitis outbreak that has killed more than 30 Americans.

            Senator Roberts made the following remarks at a hearing of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee entitled “Pharmacy Compounding: Implications of the 2012 Meningitis Outbreak”:
