Senator Roberts Veterans Day Statement 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts, the most senior Marine in the congress, today issued the following statement in observance of Veterans Day:

“I want to take this Veterans Day to personally thank Veterans around the nation for their service.

“At a time in our nation’s history when we face uncertain and growing threats, the courage and strength of the men and women of the armed services is our nation’s greatest asset. I will work to ensure these servicemembers have what they need to fulfill their mission and ensure their families are thriving here at home.

“I pray for those now serving in harm’s way, and am forever grateful to those that have sacrificed so much for our freedom and security.

“Every report of a fallen soldier serves as a poignant reminder that freedom is not without cost and securing our nation from global threats is not an easy task. But with tragedy we see acts of uncommon valor and great sacrifice for a cause and a deep belief in something bigger than just one person.

“So we honor the more than one million American men and women who have given their lives for their country since our nation’s founding. We honor the more than 23 million living veterans – from the Greatest Generation to the latest generation. And we honor the families of those who have or are serving.

“While our debt to these heroes can never be re-paid I am know that my fellow Kansans agree that these liberators and defenders of democracy deserve our utmost respect and gratitude.

“Our nation would not be recognizing this sacrifice as we do today had it not been for a group of dedicated Kansas patriots who rallied the nation to create a Veterans Day.

“So from this Kansas Marine to all of those that have worn the uniform: thank you again for your selfless and honorable contributions to our communities, our state and a grateful nation. Semper Fi.”
