Academy Nominations

I remain committed to ensuring that our country has the finest men and women leading our military. Service Academies represent a cross sectional group of best young men and women the nation has to offer. There are five Service Academies: The United States Air Force (USAFA), United States Naval (USNA), United States Military (USMA), United States Merchant Marine (USMMA), and United States Coast Guard (USCGA) Academies. Nominations are required for all but the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, to which appointments are made on the basis of an annual nationwide competition. It takes a well-rounded person who demonstrates leadership, achieves high academic marks, and athletic preparation to be one of the few who can meet the Service Academies high admission standards and the fierce competitions for appointment. Characteristics of chosen applicants are: dedication to the nation, desire to serve others, ability to accept discipline, sense of duty, morality, and the enjoyment of challenging missions.

Academy Day

I will hold an Academy Day for all students eighth grade and higher who are interested in attending a Service Academy. Each Academy will provide information briefings that detail the academy admissions process, educational program and answer any questions. Early participation is encouraged in order to develop the strongest candidates for these highly competitive institutions. As the date draws near, refer back to this site for date and location of this event.
