Infantry Brigade Honors Congressman and Beverly Young with Military Order Award

Congressman C.W. Bill Young and his wife Beverly were awarded the Order of Saint Maurice Civis during an Oct. 13 ceremony hosted by the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in the Armed Forces Reserve Center named in his honor.

To be eligible for the award, a person must meet specific criteria set forth by the National Infantry Association, and a current member of the association must nominate the individual.

The Order of Saint Maurice recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the infantry in ways that standout in the eyes of the recipient’s seniors, subordinates, and peers.  The individual must also demonstrate the highest standards of integrity and moral character, an outstanding degree of professional competence, and serve the United States Army infantry or the infantry community with distinction.

The Order of Saint Maurice has five levels of distinction. Each level represents a different category of eligibility for the award.  Primicerius is the highest level followed by Centurion, Legionnaire, Civis, and Peregrinus. Congressman Young and his wife were both awarded the Civis, which is for civilian personnel who have made significant impacts within the infantry community.

Congressman Young served in the Florida Army National Guard with the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team from 1948 to 1957 before his service in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Florida Senate.
