Giving Families Like Yours More Choices

Too many policies that come out of Congress constrain your options in the job market, education, and health care. Too many bureaucrats think it takes a one-sized, government-created village to raise a child.  As long as Congressman Walsh is serving in Congress you can rest assured that he will work to make sure the policies Congress passes give your families the flexibility to be happy. Because Congressman Walsh think families should make their own decisions – not Washington.

Job Choice

Three years after passing a billion-dollar stimulus package one thing is clear: government does not create jobs. As Subcommittee Chairman under the Small Business Committee, Congressman Walsh has spearheaded efforts that expand opportunities for small businesses and have worked to cut regulations that are strangling entrepreneurs. Congressman Walsh lead this charge because he believes government should get out of the way and let small businesses do what they do best: act as America's number one job creator.

Health Care Choice

As a Member of Congress, Congressman Walsh chose to turn down his gold-plated Congressional health care and pension benefits, so he knows the challenges you face when making health care decisions. Women make 85% of the health care decisions in their household, but if the President's health care plan is implemented, the government will make those choices for you. That is why he twice voted in favor of full repeal of the President's health care plan, and instead support efforts giving your family choices. Those efforts include allowing families to save up for health care costs and spend it as you choose through health savings and flex spending accounts, and to shop for health insurance placs throughout the United States, not just in Illinois.

Education Choice

Washington shouldn't dictate how communities spend funding for school - parents should. And Congressman Walsh believes that every child should have access to quality education. That is why Congressman Walsh support giving parents and local school boards the choice to spend education funding where they see fit and why he supports giving vouches to lower-income families so they can send their children to a school of their choice.

To Give the Families of the 8th District Choices, Congressman Walsh Co-Sponsored Legislation that:

  • Raises the government wide small business-contracting goal to 25%.
  • Reauthorized the education program that provides scholarships to low-income families who can use them to send their children to a school of their choice.
  • Gives states the flexibility to use federal education dollars as they see fit.
  • Increases the use of health savings and flex spending accounts.
  • Allows families to buy health insurance from anywhere in the US, not just Illinois.
