Congressional Art Competition

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.

This year, judging will be conducted by both the community and a panel of judges. Submissions will be displayed on the Congressman's official Facebook page for a period of one week and the Facebook community can vote for their favorites by clicking "like." The top 5 submissions with the most "likes" will then be judged by a panel in Illinois in April. To submit your artwork, please look at the rules and submission forms below. Please e-mail photos of the artwork to IL08ArtContest@gmail.com and be sure to include your full name and the title of your piece in the subject line.

The contest is a part of a nationwide Congressional High School Art Competition sponsored by the Congressional Institute. The winning piece of art from Rep. Walsh's district joins winners from other Congressional districts around the country and is displayed in the Cannon House Office Building Tunnel, a high-traffic pedestrian walkway leading to the United States Capitol Building.

Transportation will be provided for the first place winner to fly to Washington, D.C. to see their art displayed in the Capitol Building during an unveiling ceremony June 20. In addition, our office is more than happy to assist in arranging a variety of tours for the winner and his/her parents, including a meeting with the Congressman in his Washington DC office. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Rep. Walshs office at (202) 225-3711. The first place winner will have their artwork displayed in the United States Capitol for one year and will have airfare provided for them and one guest to the ribbon-cutting ceremony to be held June 20.
