Improving Emergency Response in Northwest Central PA

Yesterday in Clarion I announced $500,000 for a 6 county emergency response interoperable project for the Northwest Central PA Emergency Response Group. With funding from the department of Homeland Security, emergency service operations in Clarion, Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson and McKean counties will be able to communicate and work together with hospitals, regional state and federal agencies to better respond to accidents and emergencies.

I was especially impressed with the technological amenities that the mobile command unit offered emergency response officials. It was great to talk about this collaborative partnership with key stakeholders and I look forward to spreading the word about this project as I travel across Pennsylvania.

Talking Jobs in Cameron County

On the first day of President's Day recess, I stopped for lunch at the Cabin Kitchen in Emporium, Cameron County to sit down with local officials to hear their concerns and ideas on economic recovery. With unemployment over 16%, Cameron County has the highest rate in Pennsylvania. While the unemployment is disconcerting, the bipartisan effort that local officials are taking to meet the needs of the county ought to serve as a model in Washington.  It is so valuable to hear from these leaders who are on the ground to really understand how the economy has affected Pennsylvanians.

After an informative meeting and a great tuna hoagie, I am heading to Clearfield County.
