Need help filing your taxes?

Monday, February 7, 2011

The IRS has compiled a list of available assistance for taxpayers who need assistance filing their federal tax returns.  The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, or VITA, assists low-to-moderate income individuals, generally those making less than $49,000 annually, who cannot prepare their own tax returns.  A list of Pennsylvania VITA sites can be found here.

Tax Counseling for the Elderly, or TCE, is a program that provides free tax assistance to individuals over 60 years old. A list of Pennsylvania locations can be found here.

The military also has a strong VITA program that assists military members and their families.  More information can be found here. Military personnel can locate the nearest VITA site by contacting the military Legal Service Locator.

Additionally, some local IRS offices assist with filing of federal tax returns.  You can locate your local office here. It should be noted that all offices do not assist with filing returns.
