Rep. Woodall Commemorates Pearl Harbor

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) issued the following statement in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day:

“There are a few long and dark days in American history.  December 7, 1941, is one of those days.  It is also one of those times that best illustrates the tremendous fortitude of the American spirit.  Though our nation suffered a series of surprising and devastating attacks on American soil seventy-one years ago today, and though we did not know when or where the next attack might occur, we never cowered from the tremendous struggle that lay ahead.  Shortly following former President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Date of Infamy Speech on December 8, 1941, a young sailor wrote the following words of inspiration to his crew on a chalk board on his ship near Pearl Harbor: ‘Your conduct and action have been splendid ... While you have suffered from a treacherous attack, your commander-in-chief has informed me that your courage and stamina remain magnificent… Recruiting stations are jammed with men eager to join you.’”

“On this Pearl Harbor Day, I would like to recognize the spirit and bravery of the amazing heroes that led the effort to pull America out of that day of darkness, our service members.  And, while that struggle continues to this day, our military men and women continue to lead the fight, just as they did in the time following December 7, 1941.  Today is a day that is as much about honoring our military heroes as it is about remembering one of America’s dates of infamy.  May God Bless our military and our veterans, and may God Bless the United States.”
