Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act The Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act will end the Obama Administration's de facto moratorium in a safe, responsible, transparent manner – putting thousands of Americans back to work and increasing American energy production to help address rising gasoline prices. The bill places speed over safety by short-circuiting the drilling permit process, while doing little to lower prices at the pump. It also fails to implement basic offshore drilling safety reforms recommended by the independent BP spill commission, and would "deem" drilling permits approved after 60 days even if the necessary safety and environmental reviews have not be completed—putting the Gulf at risk for yet another environmental catastrophe. The Cutting Red Tape to Facilitate Renewable Energy Act (Hastings, WA) Would accelerate the development of clean, renewable energy projects on federal lands by streamlining and simplifying government regulations, while still ensuring thorough environmental reviews. The bill guts key environmental review provisions for renewable energy projects on public lands by reducing the ability of the public to comment on proposed projects on their lands and by constraining federal agencies from considering a range of project alternatives that may improve the project and reduce its impact on the environment. This could result in a higher rate of rejected renewable energy projects and more frequent lawsuits against them.. This explains why renewable energy industry groups have not endorsed this bill.
