Today Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman and Energy and Power Subcommittee Ranking Member Bobby L. Rush sent a letter to Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton and Energy and Power Subcommittee Ranking Member Ed Whitfield to request a hearing on the PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Low Carbon Economy Index report on the necessary rate of decarbonization to limit global warming. The report found that to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, the world will need to decarbonize its economy at the very challenging and unprecedented rate of 5.1% per year.
Today, Congresswoman Lois Capps (CA-23), Congressman Henry A. Waxman (CA-30), Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-36), and three of their colleagues in the California Congressional Delegation wrote to U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano to express their concern about increased panga boat smuggling on the California coast and to request a briefing with DHS officials to explore the federal role in our coast security. Specifically, the lawmakers are requesting to be updated on the actions that DHS, including the U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Border Patrol, are taking to combat increased panga smuggling off the coast of California and how the agency is coordinating with state and local law enforcement.
House Energy and Commerce Committee leaders sent a letter today to the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists seeking information on the role of this industry association in assisting compounding pharmacies in their interactions with Federal and state authorities. A bipartisan group of Committee leaders wrote, “Allegations that your association may have encouraged compounding pharmacists to attempt to impede FDA from evaluating the efficacy and safety of their products, if true, raise serious concerns about your actions.”
