Sullivan Votes to Cut Red Tape for Job Creators

Washington, Jul 26 - Today, Congressman Sullivan offered the following statement after the House passed H.R. 4078, the Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act. This common sense legislative package would freeze any economically significant regulation until our national employment rate reaches 6% or below. This important legislation would also prevent “lame duck” administration’s from issuing economically significant regulations, thus ensuring executive branch accountability in the process.

“The Obama Administration’s radical regulatory agenda is decimating our economy – a recent study released by the U.S. Small Business Administration estimates that the cost of regulatory compliance for the smallest businesses is $10,585 per employee per year –  36 percent more than their larger counterparts.

At a time when our focus should be on jumpstarting the economy  and putting Americans back to work, President Obama has instead saddled small business job creators with even more uncertainty by imposing 41,662 pages of new costly government mandates and regulations this year alone. This is not the solution to our economic woes – more big government intervention will only serve to make the problem worse. I will continue to support common-sense legislation, like the House passed today, to rein in unnecessary, job destroying regulations that hinder our economic growth and unfairly burden American workers and businesses.”
