WASHINGTON, D.C.Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today announced the City of Garden Grove has been awarded a very significant grant award for disaster recovery.  Garden Grove will receive $2,929,200 from the Department of Commerce to make roadway, infrastructure, and drainage improvements along Harbor Boulevard to assist commercial areas.

“I am very pleased to hear the City of Garden Grove was awarded this large grant,” said Sanchez.  “Disaster recovery investments not only help our community recover, but they attract new businesses and put people back to work.  It’s important we increase our community’s resiliency to flooding if we are to continue attracting the hotel industry and other industries to Garden Grove.”

“Harbor Boulevard is a significant entryway to the area’s most important tourist center.  Ensuring that the infrastructure is sound and able to withstand any potential natural disasters for several years to come, is a tremendous asset for our city’s financial and physical health, as well as our community’s peace-of-mind,” says Garden Grove Mayor William J. Dalton.

This project is funded through the FY 2012 Disaster Relief Opportunity administered through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA).  EDA estimates the grant funds will create 930 jobs and $290 million in private investment leveraged.
