  1. Great sitting down with Brett from The Final Say Radio Show to talk about some of the most important issues facing our country. Thanks for coming in, Brett and for ignoring the boxes as we pack to move offices so we can better serve the First District.

ng progress in improving student academic achievement levels. John Hay is the third school to be named a Blue Ribbon school from Hamblen County and the first elementary school in the county to be given the award. The other two Blue Ribbons were given to the county’s high schools. Six Tennessee schools were recognized by the program this year. I am proud of the students, faculty, staff and parents involved with these schools and I congratulate them on a job well done!

  9. SURVEY: Do you think the President's proposed tax increase will be enough to avert the fiscal cliff?
  10. Saturday afternoon I joined the Dr Carol Show to discuss the health care law and where we go from here. Some businesses in Tennessee are already cutting their employees' hours back because of the Affordable Care Act, and worse, some small businesses are being forced to cut employees from their payrolls altogether. What do you think?

  12. In yesterday's Veterans Affairs Committee hearing, I asked VA Deputy Secretary Scott Gould how he could justify plush conferences when veterans in the First District can't get in to see a doctor. Most VA staffers on the front lines, especially those in East Tennessee, are hardworking and dedicated, and it isn't fair to them to be associated with this stigma.
  13. Last week I spoke to the Northeast TN Special Education Supervisors Association. It was very helpful to get their feedback on sequestration and learn just how it would affect our students with disabilities.
