Great sitting down with Brett from The Final Say Radio Show to talk about some of the most important issues facing our country. Thanks for coming in, Brett and for ignoring the boxes as we pack to move offices so we can better serve the First District.

- Last night I attended John C. Hay Elementary School's Blue Ribbon Celebration Event. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized 269 schools as 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools based on their overall academic excellence, or for maki...ng progress in improving student academic achievement levels. John Hay is the third school to be named a Blue Ribbon school from Hamblen County and the first elementary school in the county to be given the award. The other two Blue Ribbons were given to the county’s high schools. Six Tennessee schools were recognized by the program this year. I am proud of the students, faculty, staff and parents involved with these schools and I congratulate them on a job well done!See More

Please take a moment to read my weekly column in The Hill.- Tonight, the Capitol Christmas tree was lit. This tradition dates back to 1964 when the Architect of the Capitol, at the suggestion of then-Speaker McCormack, began decorating a tree on the West Front lawn. Since 1970, the trees have been p...rovided by the U.S. Forest Service. This year's tree was harvested from the White River National Forest in Colorado. It arrived on November 26th and was decorated with 10,000 lights and thousands of decorations crafted by the people of Colorado.See More

VIDEO: My statement in support of H.R. 6582. This legislation would establish a uniform energy efficiency descriptor for all water heaters, walk-in freezers and walk-in coolers. The bill also improves the testing methods that determine whet...her or not these products are energy efficient, which will provide certainty for manufacturers of these products, including A.O Smith. A.O. Smith makes over 8,000 water heaters each day and employs over 1,200 people in the First District.See MoreDr. Phil Roe shared a link.

Saturday afternoon I joined the Dr Carol Show to discuss the health care law and where we go from here. Some businesses in Tennessee are already cutting their employees' hours back because of the Affordable Care Act, and worse, some small businesses are being forced to cut employees from their payrolls altogether. What do you think?Dr. Phil Roe shared a link via GOP Doctors Caucus.
- Today, I was chosen to be a co-chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus for the 113th Congress with my colleague and Caucus founder Phil Gingrey. I am honored to take on this leadership role and I look forward to continuing to work to make health care more affordable and accessible.

In yesterday's Veterans Affairs Committee hearing, I asked VA Deputy Secretary Scott Gould how he could justify plush conferences when veterans in the First District can't get in to see a doctor. Most VA staffers on the front lines, especially those in East Tennessee, are hardworking and dedicated, and it isn't fair to them to be associated with this stigma.Dr. Phil Roe shared a link.
The President is demanding tax increases to solve our debt crisis, but East Tennesseans know that Washington doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. Any potential deal we reach must begin with real spending cuts. What do you think?- Last week I spoke to the Northeast TN Special Education Supervisors Association. It was very helpful to get their feedback on sequestration and learn just how it would affect our students with disabilities.
