Washington, DC – On May 5, 2011, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) attended a wreath-laying ceremony at Ground Zero with President Obama at the invitation of the White House. Congressman Rothman was also with President Bush when he made his iconic speech on September 14, 2001 at the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Attendees at the wreath-laying ceremony from left to right in the front row: Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Rep. Steve Rothman (D-NJ), Sen. Robert Menendez (D- NJ), Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY), and Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY).
“Our gratitude goes to our U.S. military and intelligence in accomplishing this dangerous and complex mission as well as to President Obama for his steadfast leadership in realizing this long sought goal of bringing Osama bin Laden to justice,” said Congressman Rothman. “Our hearts continue to go out to the families of all of the 9/11 victims as well as victims of other terrorist attacks against Americans. We hope that the death of this mass murderer will bring some comfort to them.”
“The Ground Zero ceremony for the nation, families and the victims, and for me personally, closes a circle that began on September 11, 2001 and continued three days later when I was with President Bush at the World Trade Center site,” said Congressman Rothman.
