Washington, DC – On April 12, 2011, Congressman Steve Rothman (NJ-9) congratulated Gabriel Giraldo, an undergraduate science student attending Rutgers University from Leonia, NJ, and his parents, for Gabriel’s work in energy-efficient water filtration. Gabriel and his parents were in Washington, DC because he was selected as part of Rutgers’ prestigious Council on Undergraduate Research’s (CUR) “Posters on the Hill” Showcase. Gabriel specifically researched carbon-nanotube membranes and their potential to greatly increase the energy efficiency and cost effectiveness of water filtration and desalination. This study could have many important applications such as helping developing nations gain greater access to fresh water.
“I am so very proud for his cutting edge work in this field and the honor he has brought to himself, his family, Leonia, and the entire state of New Jersey. His work may one day save countless lives by providing fresh water to those in need,” said Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ).
