The Achievement Through Technology and Innovation (ATTAIN) Act
Provides federal funding to help schools that serve disadvantaged and low-income students purchase computers, software and other technology. The measure ensures adequate teacher training in the use of technology to teach students and puts in place standards to ensure all students are technologically literate by the 8th grade. The bill also requires that states provide guidance to districts on how to ensure that schools have access to the most up-to-date computers and software. Finally, the ATTAIN Act calls for research initiatives to determine the effectiveness of the new technology program at the state and national levels.

The Communities of Color Teen Pregnancy Prevention Act, HR 2678
Make additional federal competitive grants available for existing and new school-based and community-based teenage pregnancy intervention programs in minority communities. The legislation would also authorize a national multimedia educational campaign to provide public education and increase public awareness about teenage pregnancy prevention and the importance of promoting and building healthy relationships to prevent teenage pregnancies.
The Nursing Home Patient Protection and Standards Act
Provides training and whistleblower protections for the surveyors who oversee the quality of care provided by nursing home facilities.
National Public Health Week Resolution
The resolution calls for an increased federal commitment for disease prevention, based on evidence that shows prevention efforts can help reduce rates of many serious diseases and related health care costs.
The Guidance, Understanding and Information for Dual Eligibles (GUIDE) Act
Assists people with mental disabilities in finding the right Medicare prescription drug plan for them by creating a demonstration program to provide one-on-one counseling services. The measure would also require that counseling services be provided by trained social workers and counselors in community mental health centers and other community-based non-profit organizations.
The Support 21 Act of 2009
Authorizes a new highly visible media campaign to educate the public about underage drinking laws and build support for their enforcement. The legislation asks the National Academy of Sciences to provide a report to Congress about the influence of drinking alcohol on the development of the adolescent brain. The legislation authorizes supplemental grant funds to current and former Drug Free Community grantees to work with pediatric health care providers and parents to reduce underage drinking.
The Sober Truth on Preventing (STOP) Underage Drinking Act Reauthorization, H.R. 1562
Continues the programs begun with the original STOP Act, and builds upon these public health efforts by doubling the original investment in a multimedia campaign to educate parents and communities about the dangers of underage drinking; authorizing an Institute of Medicine report on the literature about the influence of drinking alcohol on the development of the adolescent brain; and establishing grants to train pediatric health care providers in how best to screen and treat children and teens who have had alcohol exposures.

The Immigration Oversight and Fairness Act
Provides all immigration detainees with basic minimum protections including access to medical care, phones, and legal representation by establishing legally enforceable immigration detention standards in place of the current system of non-binding and inconsistently applied guidelines. The measure also provides special protections for unaccompanied children and other particularly vulnerable detainees while expanding the use of cost-saving alternatives to detention.

Improved Vaccination Efforts, HR 4990, 4991, 4992, 4993
A package of bills that will help to ensure that adults have access to life-saving vaccines, including the new vaccine against the virus that causes cervical cancer as well as vaccines against seasonal influenza, certain pneumonias, Hepatitis B, and shingles, among others. These bills will increase access to vaccines by creating a Vaccines for Uninsured Adults program, modeled on the very successful Vaccines for Children program. The Vaccines for Uninsured Adults program will provide vaccines free of charge to uninsured and underinsured adults. The bills would fund programs to educate the public about the importance of adult immunization and would provide for grants to states to strengthen state adult immunization efforts as well.

Personal Protective Equipment
