Service Academy Nominations

Now, more than ever, our country needs bright young men and women in leadership positions throughout the United States Armed Forces. The service academies—U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and U.S. Coast Guard Academy—provide students interested in military careers the opportunity to pursue a top-notch education.

If you are interested in attending one of the service academies and are a resident of the Fifth Congressional District of Kentucky, you may apply for a nomination from Congressman Hal Rogers. Applications must be received by November 30th to be considered for a nomination for the following school year.

Each student’s file in Congressman Rogers’ office should contain:

1. Completed application form.
2. Completed recommendation form submitted by your high school guidance counselor or principal.
3. Official transcript of your high school record which includes class rank. The transcript must show your final junior grades and numerical class rank (percentile ranks are not acceptable).
4. SAT or ACT test scores.
5. Three (3) letters of recommendation written by anyone who knows you well, but is not a relative.
6. A one or two page essay outlining your reason(s) for wanting to attend an academy
7. Photograph, if readily available.

All academy-related correspondence should be addressed to:

Office of U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers

Washington, DC 20515

Because of Congressional mail screening procedures, please allow at least two weeks for mail to arrive in Congressman Rogers’ office. Application materials may also be faxed to (202) 225-0940.  If you have any questions, please call the Washington office at 202-225-4601.

Please remember that all work done on your file should be your own. The support of family, friends and teachers is very important; however, because YOU are seeking admission, it will be YOUR motivation that will be a deciding factor in your nomination.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the material you supply to Congressman Rogers’ office is separate from that which is required by the individual academies.
