Plattsburgh, Nov 23 -

This Saturday, November 24th, marks the beginning of "Small Business Saturday," an occasion marked to promote and celebrate small businesses during a traditionally busy shopping weekend.

"We can all do our part to help create jobs in the community by shopping small and buying local," said Congressman Bill Owens.  "There are countless opportunities in our district to support small business, whether it's a small shop on main street or a local producer at the farmers market."

Owens also encouraged local businesses to connect with the Small Business Administration (SBA) online in advance of Small Business Saturday to get information on everything from better marketing to hiring temporary workers.  The SBA also links to tools that can help shoppers locate small businesses in their communities.  More information is available at http://www.sba.gov/saturday.

According to the SBA, small businesses are responsible for the creation of two out of every three net new jobs over the past twenty years.  Today, over half of all working Americans own or are employed by a small business.
