War on Terror

It has been over a decade since the tragedy of 9/11 shook the country and launched a worldwide War on Terror.  Since then, America’s men and women in uniform have done extraordinary work in Iraq and Afghanistan to keep us safe and protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.  Through their efforts, we have seen significant disruptions in major terrorist networks and the elimination of terrorist leaders like Osama Bin Laden. 

Bin Laden’s death sent a message that there is no safe haven for those who threaten the safety and security of the American people.  I join all Americans in expressing my admiration and gratitude for the men and women in uniform who have sacrificed so much so we can enjoy our freedom. 

To help keep our soldiers the best trained, best equipped fighting force in the world, we have to maintain the equipment and infrastructure that aids them in their fight.  Fort Drum is a preeminent training installation, and as a Member of the Armed Services Committee I am doing everything I can to secure its future and help see the continued expansion of its mission.

In addition, civilian agencies at the local, state and federal level are tasked with our security as well, and must have the resources they need to get the job done.  This means staying vigilant in the fight against those who would do harm to the United States, giving first responders the tools they need and securing the border in a way that facilitates both trade and security. 

I believe we can achieve this, and I look forward to working with officials at all levels to see continued a safer, stronger America here at home and continue success across the globe.
