Animal Protection

Congressman Moran is a leading advocate for animal protection issues in Congress. He believes that animals have been given into our care and we must treat them with respect and dignity.

BRAC and Traffic in Northern Virginia

In 2005, the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission put forward recommendations to Congress that included moving more than 22,000 Department of Defense (DoD) personnel to Fort Belvoir by September 2011.

Economy

One of Congressman Moran’s top priorities is promoting job creation while protecting our long-term economic health. Throughout his time in Congress he has served as a leader on economic and financial issues.

Education

Congressman Jim Moran is a strong supporter of the public education system. One of his top education priorities is a reworking of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), also known as “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB). NCLB has never received the funding needed to provide local school systems with the necessary flexibility to comply with this law.

Environment

Protecting our natural resources—the environment—is one of Congressman Moran's top priorities. Reflecting his commitment, Congressman Moran consistently receives high marks for his "green" voting record from national environmental organizations including the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters.

Federal Employees

Congressman Moran. The Congressman believes that the U.S. federal workforce is the greatest civil service in the world, providing critical government support and services for all Americans. Throughout his time in Congress, the Congressman has fought to promote and protect the federal civil service while helping it adapt to the new challenges our government faces in the 21st Century.

Gay Rights

Congressman Moran has a long record of working to secure equal treatment under the law for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals – dating all the way back to his efforts as Mayor of Alexandria to prohibit discrimination in the hiring of city employees.

Healthcare

Congressman Moran was proud to support passage of landmark health insurance reform, legislation that in the history books will be considered in the same light as the passage of civil rights and the creation of Social Security and Medicare in terms of its positive impact on our nation.

Immigration

Congressman Moran believes our current immigration system is dysfunctional, outdated, and in need of significant reform.

Information Technology

Northern Virginia's economy is on the leading edge of the rapidly expanding information technology (IT) industry. Recent studies indicate that technology accounted for one-fifth of all jobs in Northern Virginia and 32 percent of all wages.

Iraq and Afghanistan

An early and outspoken opponent of the war, Congressman Moran voted against authorizing President Bush to go to war, co-authoring the Democratic alternative resolution which required the former president to fully exhaust all diplomatic options before taking military action.

Labor

Congressman Moran believes the labor movement is an essential tool to achieving social justice in the United States. By promoting fair working conditions for all, and upholding American values such as hard work and determination, labor plays an important role in the global economic market.

Protecting Social Security

Congressman Moran is an outspoken advocate for strengthening, protecting, and preserving Social Security. From its inception in 1935, Social Security has been a safe, stable, and dependable source of financial assistance for retirees and their families.

Small Business

Small business is the engine that drives the U.S. economy. Small businesses represent 99.7% of all employers, create half of the nation's GDP, and are responsible for creating three out of every four new jobs. Firms with fewer than 500 employees accounted for 64% of net new private sector jobs in the past 15 years.

Transportation

Northern Virginia and the metropolitan Washington, D.C. region suffer from the second worst traffic congestion the nation. As a fellow commuter, Congressman Moran is keenly aware of the negative effects gridlock has on the region's economy including the loss of personal time that would be better spent with family and friends.

Veterans

Representing the Pentagon and Northern Virginia's large military presence, Congressman Moran is a longstanding advocate for veterans, military retirees and their spouses.
