Michaud Named New Ranking Member of House Veterans’ Affairs Committee

WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Mike Michaud (D-Maine) has been chosen by the House Democratic Caucus today to be the new Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. The appointment becomes effective immediately due to the recent resignation of Representative Bob Filner (D-California).

Jamaican Lottery Scam Impacting Maine Seniors

Michaud secures commitment from FTC to hold Maine forum on fraud and strategies to prevent it -- WASHINGTON, DC -- Today in his Washington office, Congressman Mike Michaud met with Mainers concerned about the ongoing Jamaican lottery scam that is victimizing Maine seniors and others throughout New England. Michaud met with representatives of FairPoint, Major Bill King of the York County Sheriff’s Department, and a victim’s representative. They discussed the need to raise awareness of the issue and what actions the federal government could take against the fraud.

Michaud Seeks Answers on Missing Military Records

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Mike Michaud (D-ME), Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health, sent a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki seeking answers to questions raised by a joint investigation by ProPublica and The Seattle Times that revealed the U.S. military lost, destroyed or failed to create or keep massive volumes of battlefield reports from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

House Passes Russia Trade Bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Mike Michaud (D-ME), Chairman of the House Trade Working Group, voted to pass H.R. 6156, a bill that provides Russia and Moldova normal trade relations status and establishes new human rights-related sanctions on Russia. The bill also improves trade enforcement measures available to the United States that are similar to those contained in a bill that Michaud introduced and urged the Ways and Means Committee to consider in July. The bipartisan bill passed by a vote of 365-43.

Michaud Praises Release of LIHEAP Funds

BANGOR, ME – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud praised the release of $34.9 million in Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding to Maine by the Department of Health and Human Services. Michaud joined with ninety of his colleagues in the House to request the release of this funding.

Doctor Hired for Calais VA Clinic

BANGOR, ME – Congressman Mike Michaud, the Ranking Member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health, has been informed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that it has hired a full-time doctor for the community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC) in Calais. According to the VA, the doctor will start December 30th.

Michaud Praises EDA for Advancing Bangor Project

BANGOR, ME – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud praised the Economic Development Administration (EDA) for advancing an important project at the Bangor International Airport that he wrote a letter of support for in October. The application for $579,000 in EDA grant funding is a joint effort led by the City of Bangor, in partnership with C&L Aviation (C&L), to expand the company’s aircraft maintenance business. The project was selected by EDA for further consideration, although no final award of funding has been made at this time. Michaud has led the fight in Congress to preserve EDA funding.
