Miller: DHS Grant Awarded to Armada Township Fire Department

Dec 5, 2012

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today praised the awarding of a $288,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program to Armada Township Fire Department.  Armada Township Fire Department will use this grant for staffing of one additional firefighter/paramedic to each of their 24 hour day and night shifts.  Established in 1853, the Armada Township Fire Department provides dedicated fire, rescue, and Advanced Life Support services to Northern Macomb County.

“This SAFER grant Armada Township Fire Department is receiving will allow for additional staff to meet the fire rescue and safety needs of the areas they serve,” Miller said.  “It is vital to continually invest in our first responders and ensure they can meet their missions day-in and day-out, further supporting the commitment they made to providing life saving services. I congratulate Armada Township Fire Department on receiving this grant and thank them for their service.”

*Please Note: These awards are administered by the DHS’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration and are not a federally requested project (earmark) or a stimulus requested project.  The DHS grant is part of the competitive FY 2012 AFG Program - SAFER announcements.  SAFER program is a funding initiative designed to strengthen the nation’s ability to respond to fire and fire-related hazards and improve the nation’s overall level of preparedness.  The goal of any SAFER grant is to enhance the ability of grantees to attain and maintain 24-hour staffing and to assure that their communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.
