An Artistic Discovery

 

"An Artistic Discovery" is the annual art contest conducted by Members of Congress for high school students across the country. This competition provides Members and the public an opportunity to encourage and recognize the rich artistic talents of young American high school students.
 
The winning artist and 1 guest will be flown to Washington, D.C., to attend an unveiling reception held at the Capitol this year. Date of reception TBA. The winning piece from each district will be displayed as part of a year-long national exhibition in the Cannon Tunnel, a pedestrian walkway leading from the Cannon House Office Building to the United States Capitol.
 
Competition Rules:
  • The competition is open to all high school students (9-12) living in the 4th Congressional District.
  • Entry must be of original concept, design and execution and may not violate any U.S. Copyright Laws.
  • Only one entry per student will be accepted.
  • Entry must not reproduce an existing photo, painting, graphic advertisement or any work produced by another person.
  • Submitted entry must be in the original medium (not a scanned reproduction of painting or drawing).
  • The work may not infringe the rights of any third party.
  • Framed or matted entries will not be accepted.
Entries & Guidelines:
  • Artwork must be two-dimensional, no larger than 28 inches wide by 28 inches tall by 4 inches thick.
  • The following mediums can be used individually or in combination: paintings, drawings, prints, collage, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photography.
  • Photography may not be smaller than 8 inches by 10 inches.
  • The winning entry will represent the 4th Congressional District and be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year in a national exhibition.
Entries must be received by the Congresswoman’s office along with a completed submission form (located below) by Thursday, April 12, 2012.
