Congressman Marino urges continued action from Administration

Williamsport, PA – On Wednesday, October 31, 2012, Congressman Marino (R-PA) joined with the entire Pennsylvania Delegation urging President Obama to approve reimbursement for all emergency protective measures taken throughout the Commonwealth in response to Hurricane Sandy.

On October 29, President Obama issued a disaster declaration for Pennsylvania in anticipation of the hurricane, but only provided for direct federal assistance.  The Commonwealth recognized the evident urgency of landfall and took the necessary steps to prepare for this historic storm system.

Unfortunately, the cost of supplies, equipment, and response teams that were dispatched throughout Pennsylvania will not be reimbursed by the Federal Government if the Commonwealth does not qualify for a major disaster declaration.

“Millions of residents across Pennsylvania are still without power and the effects of Hurricane Sandy will be felt throughout the Commonwealth for weeks and months to come.  Our efforts to prevent extensive damages and the necessity of those measures cannot be understated.  Just like we have an obligation to our constituents, so too does the federal government,” said Marino.

Yesterday, Marino toured Pike County and met with several officials and residents who had been impacted by Hurricane Sandy in Dingman Township and Delaware Township.  Marino also visited the Pike County Emergency Operation Center where he met with County Commissioner Rich Caridi.
