Internships

Congressional internships provide students with valuable governmental experience. I have several opportunities for students of the Second District in both my Washington and Mays Landing office year round.

Candidates should be computer literate, possess good verbal and written communication skills and be flexible in job assignments. Duties include legislative research, reception duties and other responsibilities as assigned.

Washington, DC

In my Washington, DC office, internships run year-round for college students. Although all internships in all offices are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience and can receive college credit (where applicable). The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In Washington, interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

New Jersey

In my New Jersey office, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent case work or work on District-based projects of importance.

Application Process

If you are interested in an internship in one of my offices, please complete and return the attached application form along with a cover letter, resume, photo and writing sample to my internship coordinator.

The target dates for submitting an internship application for either the Washington or Mays Landing office are as follows:

March 15th for Summer
June 15th for Fall
