2012 Veterans Fair

Washington, Nov 3 - Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) hosted his second annual Veterans Fair last Saturday at the Euless Family Life Center with over 30 organizations, committed to assisting and aiding veterans, participating.

Hundreds of veterans from the North Texas area visited the fair to learn about local benefits, services, and programs available to them.

Many veterans received immediate assistance by speaking directly with representatives from state and federal agencies. A team of nurses from the VA Hospital was also present to provide healthcare services such as flu shots and blood pressure screenings.

A number of non-profit veteran organizations including Rocky Top Therapy, Military Order of the World Wars, and Disabled American Veterans promoted their programs at the fair. New organizations participating this year included Grace After Fire, with assistance programs for female veterans, and Patriot PAWS, which unites veterans with retired and highly trained service dogs.

‘The Veterans Fair was a tremendous success. It helped many veterans connect with vital resources available to veterans and it let them know that their service is not forgotten,’ said Congressman Marchant. ‘I’m grateful that so many community organizations participated and showed our veterans how much their sacrifice really means.’

During the fair, Congressman Marchant presented military awards and medals to Richard Tuno of Carrollton and Lee Swann of Irving. Congressman Marchant’s office has assisted 140 veterans in obtaining their earned military decorations.

Congressman Marchant also presented a Veterans History Project DVD to James Brown of Irving who recently participated in the program through the Congressional Office. The Veterans History Project is an initiative to record the combat experiences of veterans who served our country. The recording is submitted to the Library of Congress where it is preserved as a part of American history.
