Immigration

Immigration

This country was founded by immigrants who brought their entrepreneurial and brave spirit to this great nation. With the creation of the United States, our government created a set of laws, and through those laws, we have continued to prosper as a world power and model of democracy. Therefore, I believe it is the government's duty to ensure these laws are enforced in order to protect our citizens and remain the leader of the free world.

I am strongly opposed to amnesty and believe it is inherently unfair and insults legal immigrants who have spent years playing by the rules to come to the United States. It does nothing to solve out illegal immigration troubles; rather, it exacerbates the problem. I believe we must not only secure our borders, but also stop encouraging illegal immigration. We must more actively prevent the hiring of illegal labor, while also allowing small businesses and farms access to seasonal labor through legal means. In addition to immigrants’ disrupting our workforce, they contribute to our economic instability by draining our health care, education and public-safety systems. States can no longer afford the federal government's inaction when it comes to enforcing our immigration laws.
