Academy Nominations

I am pleased to hear from young people seeking a nomination to one of the military service academies.  It is inspiring to hear they are considering a military career.  The privilege of nominating candidates to the academies requires a great deal of responsibility.  Therefore, to be considered, candidates must first submit a complete candidate file to my office for thorough review.  Please keep in mind it is important to update any application with new information as it becomes relevant concerning test scores and high school rank and GPA.

My selection guidelines take into account several factors.  One will be all the information provided to me in the application package, which is due by October 31, 2012.  Another will be an interview with my Military Academy Nomination Panel.  Members of the Panel are from throughout Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District.  They are ultimately responsible for choosing each of my nomineesThis interview is a required part of the nomination process and will take place in late fall.

The panel nominates candidates based on a “whole person” evaluation, as suggested by the military academies.  Factors such as academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical aptitude, character, and motivation are taken into consideration and compared with other applicants.

Candidates will be informed before January 31st as to whether they have received my nomination.  If, after my nomination, they are accepted by an academy, they will be notified by the respective academy.

Please find on this webpage the documents you will need to begin your candidate file, including the Military Service Academy Application and Guidance Counselor Form.  If, at any time, you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact my academy coordinator, Mrs. Donna Spickert at (573) 634-4884.
