  1. I am just heartbroken by what has happened at the elementary school in Connecticut. When you drop your kids off at school in the morning, you expect them to be safe. It is a desperately sad day for our country. As a parent, it is too terrible for words. My thoughts and prayers are with the children and their families in these dark hours.

This never should have happened. I am willing to work with Congress in any way to try and prevent this from ever happening again.

https://www.facebook.com/justiceforernest a murder cop on walking on your streets, are you going let more wrongful deaths happen?

    • We all have sadness. I appreciate the compassion. That's not fun, but it IS the easy part. Can we talk about guns? Controlling weapons? Help for the mentally ill, even the chronic ones? Life doesn't have to be this difficult, but we do have to be vigilant and supportive and concerned enough to advocate, and stand up for truth. We have to be a "We" society, not a "Me" society. We are our brother's keeper. Hope Dems have spine for this at some point. How about NOW!!!

    • Congress needs to act now. Why should NRA with only 3 million gun owners/supporters hold hostage a nation of 300 million and control rational discourse of this bloodthirsty issue. Enough is enough already. We are the only country of the so-called "first world" who are totally out of control on the issue of gun proliferation in our society. Start the discussion of gun ownership reform now.

  3. I am deeply saddened by the news of Jenni Rivera’s death in a plane crash on Saturday. Jenni Rivera was a legend at the young age of 43, and her decade long career was far from over.

She was a singer, actress, advocate, businesswoman, and
    ...
role model; with aspirations and talent that would have only continued to increase in scope and influence. We owe a great deal of gratitude for the contribution she has had on not only the music world but the international community. My thoughts go out to her family, including her five children.

  6. America’s Port is working again. This deal is going to protect good paying, American jobs and strengthen the commerce that flows through this critical gateway to our city and our nation.

No one wins when work stops at America’s Port. But ...
these were jobs worth fighting for, strong middle-class jobs that support families and communities. After the two years of contract uncertainty endured by these workers, most of them women, I am glad to see that we will not be shipping these jobs overseas. Every deal means that both sides gave something, and I’m proud of the work that was done at the negotiating table. I only wish Congress could negotiate as well on resolving the fiscal cliff!

and I look forward to a deal that will protect these good paying American jobs and reopen the ports as soon as possible.

  10. Today on World AIDS Day, we stand with one another across the globe in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We remember those who have passed, support those currently living with this disease, and redouble our efforts to usher in an AIDS-free generation. 11. I stand in solidarity with the hard working clerical workers, most of whom are women, of the ILWU Local 63’s Office Clerical Unit who are striking today to prevent their jobs from being sent overseas. These workers have been bargaining in good faith for over two years and I urge a fair resolution that keeps these good paying jobs at the Port of Los Angeles where they belong. As co-founder and co-chair of the bi-partisan Congressional PORTS Caucus, I understand that no one wins when work stops at America’s Port.
  12. I spoke on the House floor today about the importance of avoiding the fiscal cliff. Let's put politics aside and get this done!

  14. Good news for the economy because holiday sales are up this year! We need to keep the recovery going. Today, the White House has released a new report that shows just how important the middle class tax cuts are to our economy and middle c...
lass families. If Congress doesn’t act soon, the typical middle class family of four would see their taxes go up by $2,200. The report also estimates that “consumers could spend nearly $200 billion less than they otherwise would have in 2013 just because of higher taxes.” Helping the middle class is crucial for our continuing economic recovery. http://tinyurl.com/blos6u5
