Congresswoman Hahn Testifies at House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Hearing

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn participated in a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing on high-speed and intercity passenger rail. The Congresswoman testified on the importance of high-speed rail to the economic success of California and the nation as a whole, and then joined Committee members in posing questions to testifying witnesses including Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

In her testimony before the committee, Rep. Hahn highlighted the necessity of California high-speed rail to reduce congestion, create jobs, and strengthen the competitiveness of California and the nation.

“If the United States is going to maintain our position of economic leadership, we need to have the best infrastructure in the world,” said Congresswoman Hahn. “As the population grows, we need to construct new transportation options to reduce congestion – options that won’t just continue to patch our existing system, but break open a new transportation future. High-speed rail is that option.”

A ten year veteran of transportation issues from her time on the Los Angeles City Council, Congresswoman Hahn is also the founder of the bi-partisan Congressional PORTS Caucus, working to educate policy members in Congress on the importance of ports to the nation’s economic and national security.
