Congresswoman Hahn Hails SpaceX Contract for Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle Missions

Dec 6, 2012

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn applauded the recently announced decision by the U.S. Air Force to award the contracts for two Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV)-class missions to SpaceX of Hawthorne, CA.

“These contracts are great news for the future of the space industry in Southern California, and great news for good paying jobs in our communities,” said Congresswoman Hahn.

In October 2011, Congresswoman Hahn met with Lt. General Ellen Pawlikowski and Undersecretary Erin Conaton to urge them to expand competition in Air Force EELV acquisition to more companies to reduce costs and increase openness and transparency. In letters to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, Congresswoman Hahn expressed concern that the Air Force’s proposed block buy would unfairly exclude innovating start-up firms from consideration in space launch procurement contracts.
