Congressman Gibbs Tours NASA Plum Brook Research Center

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Gibbs (R-OH) today visited the 6,400 acre NASA Plum Brook Glenn Research Center in Sandusky, OH to learn about the ways researchers within the international aerospace community use the facility for space simulation.

The Plum Brook Station houses the world’s largest space environment simulation chamber, designed to test space hardware in a simulated Low-Earth-Orbiting environment.  The Spacecraft Propulsion Research Facility is also the world’s only test facility capable of full-scale rocket engine firings.

“I was very impressed with the expansive facilities at the Plum Brook Station today,” said Rep. Gibbs. “As the only facility of its kind in the world, it is critical that the Plum Brook Station serve an important role in future U.S. manned space flight research, the development of NASA’s Space Launch System, and National defense applications.

“The State of Ohio, home of the Wright brothers, John Glenn and Neil Armstrong, must continue its long standing history with aerospace and aviation,” Gibbs continued.  “The Plum Brook Station is fully equipped to facilitate extensive and successful aerospace research, and the potential for job creation is excellent.  It is my sincere hope that this facility is used to its full potential for years to come.”
