  1. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families impacted by the horrible tragedy in Newtown, CT. As a parent myself I cannot imagine the pain those familes are going through because of such a senseless act of violence.

I am disappointed to see Justin Amash voting alone against so many spending bills. Please join him in his dedication to conservatism or I fear I will no longer be able to support you in my district or further offices. Do the right thing.

    • Stop holding the middle class tax breaks hostage for tax breaks for the rich. Your party faced a resounding defeat this past election. That means that the majority of Americans DO NOT agree with your party. You lost, get over it and do what the American people want.

    • See Below my comment RE A123 systems in the Detroit free press: The Chinese want the patents, they dont want the factories. The key technology patent is a battery that will deliver maximum amps at extremely low temperatures. How valuable is this,,,,, anybody who tries to start their car in very cold temps can tell you...duh. IF autos go over to electric ,,this will be key to electric cars working in cold climates. Airplanes that sit on cold runways and then need full battery power to turn over. generators in cold climates that have battery start...... ANY cold climate application that needs a battery, I'm sure you can think of your own. Space missions can get pretty cold,,,,,ha,,,, I'm sure they have a battery or two on board that require backup warming systems. THE CHINESE HAVE THE SMARTS TO OUTBID US ON TECHNOLOGY THAT IS 10 YEARS OUT FROM BROAD APPLICATION. WHERE IS THE SENSE OF VISION THAT WE REQUIRE TO ACTUALLY DEVELOP TOTAL ENERGY SELF RELIANCE. EITHER WE ARE TOO STUPID OR TOO LAZY. FOR ONCE I AGREE WITH THE REPUBLICAN SENATORS, THESE PATENTS SHOULD STAY HOME. EFFICIENT DEPENDABLE BATTERY SYSTEMS ARE THE MISSING LINK TO MAKING A CLEAN ELECTRIC SYSTEM WORK IN THIS OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY (read:China).

    • If you feel it is necessary to raise taxes, which in a poor economy is always a bad idea, please hold the president's and the Demoncrat's feet to the fire and get spending cuts at the same time. Remember how the Demoncrats double crossed Reagan when he agreed to tax increases for spending cuts but never did see the cuts.

  5. While President Obama continues to make the arguement for raising taxes on the very small businesses we need to create jobs he is avoiding the real problem: Washington's out of control spending. The chart below demostrates how spending has soared and will continue to do so in the future. It's a spending problem Mr. President!

  8. Here are my thoughts on the notion that the defense portion of A123 can be seperated from the non-defense sectors:

The technology developed by A123 is a core component to their work in the automotive, grid and telecommunications sectors. ...
This core technology and intellectual property cannot be separated along A123’s business lines. Additionally, I have
concerns regarding what safeguards are in place between Wanxiang and the government of China.

  12. On this day in 1941, 2,403 Americans lost their lives in the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor. Today we remember those men and women who honorably served our nation and paid the ultimate price. Their heroic example continues to inspire future generations.

  13. An excellent piece by Small Business Chair Sam Graves on the looming regulatory cliff. Much is said of how raising taxes will negatively impact small business, however, what often goes unnoticed is the negative impact of over-regulation o...
n economic growth, investment, and job creation.

    Did you know?

The overall regulatory burden is now $1.8 trillion annually, according to the Competitive Enterprise Institute, and this year alone new rules have added $215.4 billion in compliance costs.

There has already been a wave of “economically significant” regulations ‑ those with an annual impact of $100 million or more ‑ that outpaced both the Clinton and Bush administrations. That pace slowed leading into the 2012 elections, but a second wave has been building.

As Washington debates a fiscal cliff on spending and taxes, we should not forget the regulatory avalanche that awaits businesses in the New Year. Roughly 4,100 new regulations are in the pipeline, according to the government’s website. Not all these regulations will affect small businesses. Many will, however ‑ and the compliance costs for small firms will exceed that of their large competitors by some 36 percent.

Find out just how devastating the Regulatory Cliff will be on America's engine of economic growth HERE: http://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2012/12/06/the-regulatory-cliff-awaits/

    reform.

We shouldn't be raising taxes on anyone - our focus needs to be on getting people back to work and raising taxes on small businesses doesn't do that.

Goodbye dollar bill? Some reports indicate that Congressional leaders are considering eliminating the paper dollar to save money, replacing it with the dollar coin -- and this time, they're serious. Would you prefer paper in your pocket, or would you like the dollar coin? Tell us which one you like better.

  20. From today's Holland Sentinel News - Huizenga, Stabenow concerned over Wanxiang bid for lithium-ion producer A123.

A group of 13 Michigan lawmakers last week expressed concern over Wanxiang’s bid to buy A123’s assets. The delegation — including Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Zeeland and U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, wrote a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who also serves as the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.

  23. Another interesting read today, this time from USA TODAY, regarding the need for entitlement reform:

Do Democrats really believe Social Security doesn't contribute to federal deficits and the national debt? They're certainly saying it a lo...
t: "Social Security does not add one penny to our debt, not a penny," Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, insisted Sunday on ABC's This Week. Well, saying it's a fact doesn't make it so. .....

Denying this harsh reality requires playing accounting shell games and believing (or pretending to believe) that Social Security can be bailed out by its trust fund. And if you believe that, we have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.
