Thank you for your interest in attending the Presidential Inauguration on Monday, January 21, 2013. We recognize the historic significance of the inauguration ceremony and are glad that you are planning to be in our nation’s capital to share in the experience.
Please note that although Inauguration ticket requests for closer standing room has closed, you can still take part in history by watch the proceedings on monitors along the National Mall.
Areas Not Requiring Tickets
Viewing the Swearing-In Ceremonies from the National Mall does not require tickets. The non-ticketed area of the National Mall begins at Fourth Street NW.
What to expect on Inauguration day:
· Parking will be severely limited on Inauguration Day. Visitors are strongly encouraged to take public transportation. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) will provide extended transit service on Inauguration Day, beginning at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013 through 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013. (www.wmata.com).
· January is historically cold and wet. Crowds will be very large, and you will be in the cold for at least three hours during the inauguration ceremony. Metro planners are estimating a crowd of 500,000 to 800,000 for the 2013 Inauguration festivities. In 2009, crowds were estimated at 1.5 million attendees.
· The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies will provide information on their facebook page and website.
Additional Information to consider:
· The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC), which will be formed by the President-elect, is responsible for most of the official balls and galas, as well as the Inaugural Day parade. Ticket requests for these and other official events should be directed to the PIC.
· Public tours of the Capitol will likely be suspended during Inauguration weekend.
