State of Union had good points, but president fell short in areas

Last week President Obama delivered his State of the Union address to the nation. I was pleased with the president’s tone throughout his speech and his praise for the critical energy mission that is ongoing at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Unfortunately, most of his speech was much of the same rhetoric and failed promises we have heard before.

Congresswoman Giffords’ courage should serve as inspiration to us all

Since last Saturday with the news of the tragedy in Arizona, there has been much discussion about the current state of our political system. Like many other officeholders I’m sure, this terrible incident has caused me to reflect and consider again why I made the decision to step into politics and the life of a public servant.
